Annually, Getty House Foundation bestows the City of Angels
Awards. At a special event, supporters gather to pay tribute to honorees that
are true angels to our city. (Since 2003, the awards event has been a Mardi
Gras-themed gala.) The "Angels" are recognized for their devotion to education
and their continued efforts to provide children (and teachers) with the tools
necessary for them to succeed.
There are four separate awards that may be made:
The City of Angels Award, conceived in 1995, goes to a person or couple who have devoted themselves to the betterment of the City of Los Angeles and its citizens. The City of Angels award recognizes the recipients' contribution to the City of Los Angeles either through economics/ business, civics, art, education, philanthropic work, or other worthy accomplishments.
The Getty House Foundation created the City of Angels Helen Bernstein Award in memory of Helen's life and the extensive contributions she made to educational reform. While she is greatly missed, this award is given in her name to acknowledge the devotion and passion an individual displays toward the pursuit of excellence in education.
The City of Angels Corporate Award recognizes
contributions to the youth of our city from the Los Angeles Business community.
The City of Angels Nancy Daly Riordan Award goes to an individual or couple who has made noteworthy achievements in helping those children in Los Angeles with critical needs ranging from hunger to inadequate health care to absent parents. The Nancy Daly Riordan Award recognizes those who, like the award's namesake, are dedicated to giving more to those children who have the least.
